Plant Engineering

Undetected leaks in production plants can lead to significant environmental and safety problems. The result: losses in production, quality and efficiency.

<ul><li>The test is carried out using tracer gases such as helium and hydrogen by filling the test parts with the test medium at overpressure and then ''sniffing'' them partially or integrally.</li><li>The pressure difference measurement is a simple and safe method, with the help of which we are able to determine the total leakage rate of simple containers up to complex plants. The chamber to be checked is pressurized with the test medium. Then, taking into account the effects of temperature, the leakage rate is determined via the pressure loss versus time.</li><li>Another frequently used test method is the bubble test. In this fast and cost-effective method, the test specimens are pressurized with air and evaluated in water.</li><li>We also perform pressure tests and burst tests with gases and liquids. This determines whether the component can withstand the calculated pressure, or at which points and under which loads the component fails.</li></ul>

Leak Test

Digital radiographic testing is an imaging method of non-destructive material testing for displaying differences in density. X-rays or gamma rays from a suitable source are used to visually display the difference in density of a component; an image appears on the radioscopy system screen. The difference in material thickness or density can be seen by the degree of blackening. The thicker or denser a component is, the less radiation can penetrate and the brighter the area appears on the X-ray image.

Radiographic Inspection

Die Farbeindringprüfung zählt zu den ältesten zerstörungsfreien Prüfverfahren. In diesem Verfahren wird ein flüssiges Penetrant verwendet, um zur Oberfläche hin offene Fehlstellen zu detektieren. &nbsp;&nbsp;So werden beispielsweise Risse in Oberflächen von Guss- und Schmiedeteilen und Schweißnähten sichtbar, die selbst bei sorgfältigster Inaugenscheinnahme unerkannt bleiben würden. <ul><li>The test liquid penetrates any surface defects of a material by capillary action.</li><li>After the penetrant has been removed from the surface, the applied developer layer generates countercapillarity. This draws the test liquid that has penetrated the defect back to the surface, making the defect visible and measurable.</li></ul>

Dye Penetrant Inspection

Like dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing is a non-destructive testing method and was developed to reliably detect near-surface indications in ferromagnetic materials. In this way, flaws can be made visible that often occur in castings, forgings and welds and would not be visible to the human eye without aids.

<ul><li>The method is used to detect and size near-surface defects, measuring the length but not the depth.</li><li>The defects are displayed because, if they are located directly on or just below the surface of a component, they partially influence the flux density of the applied magnetic field, thus forming a magnetic bead. Magnetic Particle Inspection

Since in most industrial processes liquids or gases flow above or below the ambient temperature or electric current flows, we are able to visually display the temperature differences with our system. Thus, defects and leakages of various causes can be identified. &nbsp;&nbsp;Furthermore, with the help of active thermography, we can detect critical defects in many components by applying heat to the areas to be inspected and drawing conclusions about their internal homogeneity based on the heat dissipation behavior within the component. The areas of application are mainly in modern fiber composites such as CFRP and GFRP, which are now processed in many safety-relevant products.

<ul><li>Passive thermography can be used to detect so-called hot spots in electrical switchgear and leaks in piping systems.</li><li>With active thermography, critical faults are detected by exciting the areas to be inspected with heat. In the inhomogeneous areas, differences in the heat dissipation behavior are formed, which we can visualize with our thermography system. All common excitation systems are available, with which we can display the different methods of transient, impulse and lockin thermography. We are one of the few service providers worldwide with approvals in the field of aviation.</li></ul>

<ul><li>From the temperature delta displayed in the image, you can quickly draw conclusions about the "internal values" of the object to be tested.</li><li>For this non-contact, imaging and mobile test method, hardly any preparation is required in most cases to display the condition of the test area.</li><li>Thermography is extremely precise and offers the possibility of displaying even the smallest temperature changes.</li></ul>

Thermography

Ultrasonic testing is an acoustic method for detecting material defects. Many components can also be inspected in their installed state, e.g. the support elements of an aircraft.&nbsp;Ultrasonic testing is based on the fact that sound waves propagate at different speeds in different media.&nbsp;The changes in acoustic properties at interfaces (e.g. blowholes, inclusions, cracks) inside the part to be inspected reflect the sound pulse. Based on the measured time difference, a signal image is generated and visualized on a monitor. Based on this image, the position, size and direction of expansion of the indication can be calculated.

As special as the various test methods are, a simple visual inspection can already provide basic information for the operating and maintenance condition. Visual Inspection

Eddy current tests are used to reliably detect flaws such as cracks, corrosion and foreign material inclusions. Therefore, they are not only used for testing non-ferromagnetic metals, but also with special probes for steel components such as heat exchangers and their weld seams in power plants.&nbsp;Layer thicknesses and temperature-related microstructural changes can be detected locally quickly and reproducibly.

In crack detection, the sensor is moved over or through the object to be tested. As long as there is no inhomogeneity in the material, its electrical resistance is also homogeneous and the eddy currents flow uniformly in the material. When measuring the thickness of electrically non-conductive layers, the lift-off effect is used to display the thickness of the layer via the amplitude of the instrument previously set with reference foils.
